Never in her life had Dawn Castillo worn a bathing suit. Not on casual trips to the beach, and definitely not in high school when she really started struggling with her weight. That help was especially beneficial for Dawn when she was hospitalized for three weeks last May, noting “I had no choice but to eat hospital food, and I couldn’t stay on top of my exercising routine.” Despite losing all of her momentum and gaining back weight she had already lost, Dawn picked up where she left off. She increased her water intake and exercised more than ever before. “I worked too hard not to follow through with the program,” she says.

So what’s her advice to those thinking of trying South Beach Diet and looking to achieve weight loss success? Invest in yourself. “You can never put a price on your health and happiness,” she says.

For those just beginning Phase 1, she offers some encouragement: Stay focused and don’t lose sight of the bigger picture. “Phase 1 is the hardest, but think of all the reasons why you’ve taken this step in your life,” she says. “Write down your goals and find a good support system that will help you along the way.”

Phase 2 gets easier, and consistency is key. “Follow the program, and you’ll continue to see results,” she says. By the time you get to Phase 3, the work has paid off. “You owe it to yourself to continue this journey.”

In every phase, Dawn says it’s important to enjoy the foods you love in moderation. “Just don’t overdo it,” she cautions. It’s essential to keep your personal goals top of mind as well. “My daily motivation is envisioning my dream body,” she says. “I want to prove to myself that I can achieve anything and that all I have to do is work hard to accomplish it.”
