Is the South Beach Diet low carb?
The South Beach Diet focuses on the quality of the carbohydrates you are eating each day. Because the first phase includes carbohydrates mainly from vegetables in the diet, this phase will be inherently low in carbohydrates. During South Beach Diet Phase 2 the focus continues to be on the quality not quantity of carbohydrates, as you re-introduce carbohydrates, like fruits, whole grains, starchy vegetables, and beans, back into your diet plan. Both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the South Beach Diet are designed to be low carb. The program is designed to deliver on average less than 40% of daily calories from carbs.
