Is the South Beach Diet low carb?

The South Beach Diet focuses on the quality of the carbohydrates you are eating each day. Because the weight loss phase includes carbohydrates mainly from vegetables in the diet, this phase will be inherently low in carbohydrates, ensuring you’re staying within 50 g of net carbs throughout this weight loss phase. Once you’ve reached your goal weight, the focus continues to be on the quality not quantity of carbohydrates, as you re-introduce carbohydrates, like fruits, whole grains and starchy vegetables back into your diet plan.
