What makes the South Beach Diet heart healthy?

The South Beach Diet was originally created by world-renowned cardiologist, Dr. Arthur Agatston (who practices, teaches and conducts research in Miami) to combat heart disease. Dr. Agatston observed that following the principles of the South Beach Diet allowed his patients to safely—and easily—lose weight.

The new South Beach Diet® follows most of the core principals of the original South Beach Diet, with a few minor updates, based on the latest research in weight management. With our modified South Beach program, you’ll enjoy plenty of heart-healthy fats like avocado, nuts, seeds and olive oil and lots of vitamin- and mineral-rich vegetables. Low-refined good carbohydrates from whole grains, fruit and legumes. You’ll get the optimal nutrition your body needs, and you’ll learn how to live a heart-healthy life without hunger or deprivation
