What is the difference between South Beach Diet Phase 1 and South Beach Diet Phase 2?
The South Beach Diet follows a phased approach to weight loss.
During Phase 1, you’ll limit sugar and avoid refined carbohydrates, while enjoying foods with plenty of lean protein, vegetables and healthy fats. During this first week, your internal chemistry starts to shift. Your body will begin to make the switch from using carbs for energy to burning fat for energy.
In South Beach Diet Phase 2, Steady Weight Loss, your body is primed for steady weight loss. You’ll continue to enjoy adding lean proteins, healthy fats and vegetables, and you’ll begin to add additional carbohydrates, in the form of whole grains, fruit and starchy vegetables like sweet potatoes. You’ll stay on South Beach Diet Phase 2 until you reach your weight loss goals.
